SanDestin
Hey, we are going to be talking about six things about Sandestin.  Sandestin is located in Destin Florida. I takes about five hours to get there. The first thing I want to talk about is one of Sandestin’s Hotels. This hotel is in Destin beach Golf Resort. The name of the hotel is the Luau. According to sandestin.com the Luau is a fantastic hotel that has a sunset observation deck on the roof, stunning views, fitness center, children’s pool, hot tub, tram access, and many more fun things to do. The coolest thing about this hotel is that it has a 4,000 square feet pool and a huge waterfall for you to relax and have a  excellent time. This hotel is two minutes away from the beach this allows you to walk.
Other attractions on the resort are fresh and salt water fishing. Both of these are fun and relaxing. The Sandestin bay is the best place to go salt water fishing. You can also go crabbing which is really fun and tiresome at the same time. Another thing you can do is go out to eat at Baytown Warf. According to sandestin.com Baytown Warf has over 19 delicious and fancy restaurants. Baytown Warf also has toy stores and candy shops and they also have very awesome parades every Tuesday night at 7:00. You can also go canoeing.   Canoeing is very quiet and peaceful activity. And there is much more to do in Baytown Warf.

Sandestin’s golf courses are the most spectacular courses, according to their website.  These courses have won a top 75 Golf Resorts Silver Award, in  2004, 2006, and 2008, states Golf Magazine. Sandestin is ranked as one of the 75 Best Golf Resorts in North America in 2006 by Golf Digest. It is ranked as the top 100 Women’s Course in the Century, According to Sandestin.com. In 2000 it was Voted Best New Course in Florida by the Florida Golf News.
Destin’s gorgeous beaches are extremely clean and relaxing to sit and get a tan. You can also you can also dig a hole, put your feet or body in it and go to sleep. Or you can go bogie boarding to surf the waves. You can also go crabbing with family and friends. If crabbing is not for you, try fishing or just jump in the waves.  All these are fun and cool ways to spend your day at the beach.
Sandestin tennis courts have been voted has one of the top 50 U.S tennis resorts by Tennis Magazine. Sandestin has over 15 tennis courts on the property. One of these is a woman’s tennis court.  Another is a children’s court. All these tennis courts are world class, and are surrounded by jaw dropping greenery, flowers, and beautifully mowed lawns.

This fruit is cantaloupe grown at Jason Farm in Colorado. People are getting sick from bacteria in the cantaloupe. If I were you I would not buy cantaloupes.

A long time ago beetles traveled the earth and died and  created a fossil. Now  scientist have made away to see what color they where. They have found many awesome colors. They have found blue and greens. This is very good for scientist because they get to see what bugs looked like a million years ago.

ESPN
Southern University has won one out there games. Southern University is doing terrible in my point of view. They also need to step up their game plan. Still Southern is the best football team.

LSU  got their starting quarterback back. LSU's next game is against Kentucky. LSU is ranked 3rd in the SEC- Southeastern conference. Also LSU has won all four games. LSU is a great football team.

Fred Couples selected Tiger Woods for the President cup team. Tiger got a new caddy his name is Joe LaCava tiger says he wanted a caddy to have fun with. Tiger Woods is ranked 49th in the world. I think Tiger and his caddy are going to be a great team.

Vivien Thomas
Vivien Theodore Thomas was born on August 29, 1910 and died at the age of 75 on November 26, 1985.  He was an African-American surgical technician who developed the procedures used to treat blue baby syndrome in the 1940s. He was an assistant to surgeon Alfred Blalock in Blalock's experimental animal laboratory at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, and later at the John Hopkins University  in Baltimore, Maryland. Without any education past high school, Thomas rose above poverty and racism to become a cardiac surgery pioneer and a teacher of operative techniques to many of the country's most prominent surgeons. Vivien Thomas was the first African American without a doctorate degree to perform open heart surgery on a white patient in the United States.
Vivien Thomas was born in New Iberia, Louisiana.  He was the grandson of a slave.  He attended a racially segregated high school in Nashville, Tennessee.  Even though the school was segregated, it provided him with a decent education. Thomas had hoped to go to college and become a doctor, but the Great Depression derailed his plans. He worked at Fisk University in the summer of 1929 doing carpentry but was laid off in the fall. Thomas put his educational plans on hold, and, through a friend, secured a job as laboratory assistant to Dr. Alfred Blalock at Vanderbilt University.  Although Blalock had hired Thomas to clean the cages and feed the laboratory dogs used for surgical experiments, he discovered Thomas' extraordinary eye–hand coordination. When Blalock found that Thomas had an equally sharp intellect, Thomas began doing more laboratory work and less maintenance. Thomas was classified and paid as a janitor, despite that by the mid 1930s he was doing the work of a postdoctoral researcher in the lab.
Thomas and Blalock did groundbreaking research into the causes of and traumatic shock.  This work later evolved into research on Crush syndrome and saved the lives of thousands of soldiers on the battlefields of World War II. Blalock and Thomas did experimental work in vascular and cardiac surgery, defying medical taboos against operating upon the heart. It was this work that laid the foundation for the revolutionary lifesaving surgery they were to perform at Johns Hopkins a decade later.
By 1940, the work Blalock had done with Thomas put him at the forefront of American surgery, and when he was offered the position of Chief of Surgery at his alma mater Johns Hopkins in 1941, Blalock asked that Thomas join him. Thomas arrived in Baltimore with his family in June of that year. Racism was much worse than he had gone through in Nashville. Hopkins, like the rest of Baltimore, was very segregated, and the only black employees at the institution were janitors. When Thomas walked the halls in his white lab coat, everyone looked.
On November 29, 1944, the first blue baby syndrome procedure was tested on an eighteen-month-old infant.  Blue Baby Syndrome is found babies, whose blood is stopped past the lungs, thus creating oxygen deprivation and a blue color on the baby. Because no medical instruments for heart surgery existed, Thomas used the needles and clamps for the procedure from the instruments used in the animal lab. During the surgery, at Blalock's request, Thomas stood on a step stool next to Blalock's  and coached him step by step through the procedure, Thomas having performed the operation hundreds of times on a dog, and Blalock only once, as Thomas' assistant. The surgery was not completely successful, though it did extend the infant's life for several more months.  Blalock and his team operated again on an 11-year-old girl, this time with success.  And then again on a six-year-old boy, who dramatically regained his color at the end of the surgery. These three cases formed the foundation for an article that was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, giving credit to Blalock for the procedure. Vivien Thomas' name was not mentioned in the article at all.
In 1976, Johns Hopkins University presented Thomas with an honorary doctorate. However, because of certain restrictions, he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws, rather than a medical doctorate.  The degree stated that he knew the laws but it did allow the staff and students of the Hospital or the Johns Hopkins Medical School to call him doctor. Thomas was also appointed to the faculty of Johns Hopkins Medical School as Instructor of Surgery.

Hey, we are going to talking about smart phone applications. In the smart phone world applications are commonly known as ‘’apps”.  Apps can range in price from free to hundreds of dollars. First we are going to talk about book apps.  The first app is the Bible. This app allows you to read the bible and all its different versions. Whether it’s the King James Version or the New International version. The features of bible apps are, highlighted scriptures, bookmarking options, the ability to take notes, and a scroll option for easy and continuous reading. And, the greatest feature of this app is that you can read the bible anywhere and anytime you feel the need.
I Book is the top reading app for IPhones, IPods and Ipads. This app allows you to buy books whenever, and you can read them at any time. It also bookmarks the page for you. These books range from toddler books to text books. If you love to read on the go this a great app for you. Another type of reading app is Weird But True. This app is a did you know app. Questions like, did you know that girls have more taste buds than boys? This app gets its information from National Geographic website. The cost of this app is $ 1.99.
Another type of app are apps that contain other apps in then.  It’s kind of like getting 3 for the cost of one. An example would be AppZilla. This particular app offers 100 apps in one app for $1.00. Other apps in the application would be a level, motion alarm, clock; flip a coin, ruler and many many more. Another one of these apps would be AppBox Lite. This awesome app gives you a tip calculator, mirror, price comparison app and more.  This is a free app.
Entertainment Apps for the most part are apps that have no real use or function.  They are used strictly to make you laugh; give you the ability to do fun and silly things with pictures. These apps are also used to obtain information like the location of restaurants, bathrooms, and parking spaces and even your car. The names of these apps are Car Finder, Talking Tom, Tie die doodle, Fandango, and Spoon. Talking Tom is a cat that can be punched, tickled and poked. Tom can repeat anything you say in a hilarious voice. Tie Dye Doodle is an app that lets you to create your own tie dyed T-shirt. When you are done making your creation you can email it to friends and family. Fandango lets you have an inside view of movie times and dates that are playing in your local theater. There is also a print ticket option.  Car finder is that, it’s an app that locates your vehicle when you’ve forgotten where you parked.
Music apps are great and are my favorite.  These apps let you listen to music, by choosing your favorite station, artist or genre of music that you love.  You can listen to commercial free music for hours on in.  Some of the apps are Pandora, Sound Hound, IHeart Radio and Slacker to name a few.  Pandora is my favorite.  But when I don’t know the name of a song or all of the words, I go to Sound Hound.  All you have to do is hum or sing into the phone and the app will give you the name of the artist and the song.  How cool is that?  There is also an option that will let you download and purchase the song from ITunes. You can own this app for a cost of $ 6.99.

Blog #5 / Feature Story

Warm up – I have a very funny family. Every time I see them they make me laugh. My family loves to eat.
Story
Hey, we are going to be talking about chameleons. A chameleon can make a great pet.  They need a great amount  of attention and care.   If you are loud person or like like music chameleons are not the best pet for you. Chameleons like a really quiet atmosphere

They  are one of the most beautiful and unique looking reptiles in the animal kingdom. Chameleons eat by shooting out their  long and sticky tongue.  This is really cool to see. They have binocular vision when scoping out their meals.  Chameleons like their habitat hot and humid.  The temperature for their cage should be between 80 to 90 degrees. Their  cage should also be misted with water 3 to 4 times a day in order to create humidity. You would want to clean your chameleon’s cage two to three times every month. Be careful when cleaning or misting their cage.

They often times fall when frightened. Chameleons  have the ability to change color when they are frightened, mad, hungry, sleepy, or when they want to warm up or  cool down. When chameleons are fully grown they need a screened enclosure. When they are babies they do not need a screened cage. When keeping a chameleon make sure to purchase miscellaneous types of bugs. The variety is good for their diet.  Fully grown chameleons will eat 20 or more crickets a day. Babies will eat about 6 crickets each day. Other insects they enjoy are mill worms and butter worms.

When attempting to pick up a Chameleon by the tail, be extremely careful and . Their tail is like another leg to them and can be . Their feet are little grabbers that have two or three little toes that work in conjunction with their tail when moving from branch to branch.  Their enclosure should have plenty of plants and branches in it.  If you put a plant in your chameleon’s cage make sure it is not poisonous because the chameleon will eat the plant and die.

A Chameleon needs to be taken out of their enclosure from time to time. Bring them outside on a warm sunny day.  Any chameleon will bite when threatened, so before taking them out of their cage.  Be sure  not to get your chameleon stressed out. Stressing out your chameleon could cause it to die. Think of a chameleon as an art display you can look but you cannot touch. A chameleon’s eyes can move in two different directions at the same time. A female chameleon does not have to mate in order to produce and lay eggs. However without mating  the eggs are not fertilized, which means nothing is in the egg. There are several different types of chameleons.  The smallest chameleon is the Pigmy Chameleon. They grow  2 to 3 inches in length

They largest chameleon is the Parson chameleon.  It grows 27.75 inches. The chameleon with three horns on its head is the the Jackson chameleon. It uses its horns for battling other chameleons.
